Trinh has been a Pikeo member since several years now. He accepted to answer some questions...
1) How long have you been interested in photography ? I’ve been taking photos since I was 14-15 years old. My father was a good photographer and he showed me argentic photo thanks to an old Nikon. He taught me the basics of the technology of shooting. I’ve had a digital camera for only 2 years. A Leica VLUX 1. I’d like to buy another one soon, but I will still stay faithful to Leica.
2) What do you like to photograph the most ?
People in the street. I’m used to travelling a lot, for pleasure or
for work. And I’m fond of shooting faces, expressions and looks
of the people I meet. Knowing that I will probably never see them
again, photo is a good way to capture these moments. I usually don’t
like poses, I prefer the candidness of a stolen photo.
3) What does photo represent for you ?
A mean of true expression; obviously the most sincere (with writing).
You can’t lie with a photo.
4) What are your favorite photos on your Pikeo account ?
It was taken early in the morning on the Cholon market, at
These are the feet of a rickshaw driver who was waiting for a client smoking a cigarette.
Although you meet a lot of tourists there, we mustn’t forget all these people, hardly living above the threshold of poverty.
It was taken on the border of the road, we had just been through the famous 17th parallel, separating North and South Vietnam. Tourists were giving sweets to the children of the village. And this girl preferd to give them to her brothers and sisters instead of keeping them for herself. It is a beautiful example of brotherly love.
5) What are the accounts you like to visit on Pikeo ?
Noiart; She’s my friend but also the photograph I admire the most. She has a special look on the world that I think is fascinating, beautiful and dreamlike. I came back to fotography thanks to her… Djell; He’s maybe the most intuitive person I’ve ever met. He knows how to center and stage his photos amazingly! He’s a great artist and also a very nice guy !
6) Can you tell us a photo trick ?
When I take a photo, I always try to tell a story. You need to learn how to look at things if you want your photo to talk by itself. Once you know the story, you only have to push on the button!
Thank you Trinh for this interview!
